Razer Megalodon 7.1 Gaming Headset

Not every Razer Megalodon 7.1 review that you will read on the on the Internet will be a positive one. However, this headset model was great in its day. Brilliant for gamers.  This model has / had the new and improved HRTF technology, and also DSP. The sound quality that is achievable with the Megalodon 7.1 is impressive. It is capable of extremely "Real" sounding audio.

Of course, this is what people want and will pay good money for. The Megalodon also comes with a microphone (Mic). This is great when playing games where you interact with other users via voice chat. That's all the rage these days so anything less would be a big no way!

A few years back the Razer Megalodon was considered by some as being one of the best gaming headsets out there for the price. Its popularity these days has dwindled to nothing these days due to all the new models that are constantly being pumped out every few months. Make no mistake though, even by today's demanding standards this headset is more than capable of keeping up with the big boys, and still worthy of buying. If you can find it for sale that is. Take a look on eBay and you may find one used being sold for cheap. Or you can find it being sold brand new for around £200 on Amazon UK (Not worth that kind of money).

Two models that are more recent and extremely well received are the HyperX Cloud and HyperX Cloud II.They have mostly excellent reviews and are compatible with Mac, Windows, PS4 and Desktop PC's. I would recommend the Razer Kraken 7.1 if you want to be brand loyal. They are well worth considering.

A Few Mega Concerns

In terms of usability they are mostly very good. And while most reviews are generally good, there are some customers that are very unhappy with this product. Mainly because they can't seem to get the full use out of this headset. Like not being able to get true 7.1 sound all of the time. And also a fair few complaints regarding the Microphone sound quality too. Can you hear an echo... Wire issues are also a major problem. Poor quality materials are being used, leading to premature wear and a lot of cable moving and tweaking in order to get them working properly again! That's not good when you are paying a premium price for a supposedly "high end product". We expect much better than that. Looking for a more in-depth review and close up look? Final Thoughts

The Razer Megalodon 7.1 headset is decent. But when I say decent I basically mean it's OK. But when you take the high price into account, and with all the problems people are reporting, I would say they are not worth buying. Specially not at full price. As mentioned above, the sound quality is really good, and they can compete with more up-to-date headsets in that regard. But reliability is a big issue and no matter which way you look at it, these headphones are a £30 - £40 product. Or at least they should be sold at that price. £50 tops. Any more than that buy something else as it's not worth risking more money on a product that could well end up faulty. There are much better products out there that are half the price.
